Record details

The leaf, not the volume. Folio 31 carries the entry in full: "Hornsteiner, John m.r.d. 59 E. Adams St., Chicago." That is all of it. He is one of the minority of entries in this directory with no biographical note at all, and the reason matters — the compiler asked each man to supply his own information and printed what came back, so an entry this bare is evidence that Hornsteiner sent nothing, not that nothing was known. Every other entry in the volume is self-supplied and unverified by the compiler, who says so and declines to guarantee it. Read here from the page image of the Google scan (local copy sources/pdf/violinists-guide-1916_COMPLETE_57pp_google.pdf, scan leaf 34); the printed folio is the citation, because that PDF duplicates printed pp. 36-37 and scan position cannot be trusted.
