Record details

Self-supplied, like every entry in this directory, and read here only as a search-index fragment that breaks off mid-sentence: "Dubbs, John R. Akron, Mich. c/o Lyon & Healy, Chicago, Ill. American, Allegheny City, Pa. Came to Chicago about the age of ten, studied with Jacobsohn. Has been with Lyon & Healy since 1891, and has made many trips as …" No folio came with it. "Akron, Mich." is unexplained and is deliberately not carried into any claim: this is a two-column trade directory read by machine, and this project has already had one phantom address out of exactly that arrangement. The 1924 edition (Google Books k72To-a4qjMC) prints the entry identically. Dubbs is absent from the 1916 edition, which was read complete from page images. ⚠ MISDATED — UNDER REVIEW. The Google volume wM-b274yG-MC is titled The Violinist and contains text dated January 1923, so it cannot be a 1917 edition of the Guide. Google serial metadata mis-dates bound periodicals routinely; this is the second such error found on this site. Any claim citing this record as 1917 attestation is citing something later, and until a page image settles what the volume is, nothing here should rest on its date.
