What the books printed
Chats to violin students on how to study the violin, Carrodus, J. T. (John Tiplady). London: The Strad Office, 1895. p. 59.
As printed on this page: "One of Stradivari's greatest copyists was Camillus Camilli, of Mantua (about 1740). His name is not so generally known, but I have seen one of his violins which surprised me with its magnificent tone. I cannot, however, speak generally, only having come across one notable specimen."
The Fiddle Fancier's Guide, James M. Fleming. Haynes, Foucher & Co., 1892. Scan 57. Held as more than one scan.
Camillus, Camilli, Mantua, about 1740. A maker who copied Stradivari to a certain extent, and employed good wood and fairly good varnish.
