FINDLAY, JAMES, Padanaram: 1815-96. He was born at a farm near Brechin, in Forfarshire. He made about five hundred instruments, mostly on the Guarneri model. His wood as a rule is plain, and the varnish a spirit one, thinly laid on, but the tone is frequently very good.
