Record details
A forum discussion, not edited or verified content; read in full (42 posts) on 12 August 2026. The names “Breivik” and “Milwaukee” and the year 1946 appear nowhere in it — the completion story is in Helen Harvey's linked blog entry of 30 December 2010 (see the source “violinist.com — Helen Harvey, ‘The Last Violin’”), and claims resting on those particulars must cite the blog, not this thread. What the thread itself attests: the 1935 violin's condition and repair history as discussed by the participants; David Burgess's 3 December 2010 observation — “a wild guess,” his words — that the top appears to have shrunk more than the purfling, suggesting inadequately seasoned wood; and bill platt's reading of the note, “It wasn't finished and ‘in the white’ When Olav got it.” A “grayish gold” varnish description in this thread belongs to a different, inherited Reindahl violin, not the 1935 instrument.
