Als Sohn deutscher Eltern kam er schon als Knabe nach Deutschland, besuchte in Hildesheim das Gymnasium Josephinum und bereitete sich gleichzeitig als Geiger zum Eintritt in die Hochschule für Musik in Berlin vor, wo er seit seinem 19. Jahre drei Jahre Schüler von de Ahna und zwei Jahre von Joachim war. Eine Armlähmung, die er sich in seinem 25. Lebensjahr zuzog, bestimmte ihn zu einem Berufswechsel, durch Talent und Neigung getrieben entschloß er sich Maler zu werden und bezog die Hochschule für bildende Kunst. Ein Zufall führte ihn zu seiner ersten Liebe, der Geige zurück. Er beschäftigte sich nun, 34 Jahre alt geworden, ernsthaft mit dem Geigenbau und ist überzeugt, das eigentliche akustische Gesetz, das die alten Meister gekannt und beobachtet hatten, herausgefunden zu haben, und tatsächlich erreicht er in seinen Instrumenten eine Tonschönheit, die die ersten Geiger, wie Vecsey, Hubermann u. a. bewundernd anerkennen. Er bewahrt seine Entdeckung als sein Geheimnis und verrät nur so viel, daß der Lack keinen Einfluß auf den Ton seiner Geigen hat, und daß er auch das Abstimmen von Decke und Boden in irgendeinem Tonverhältnis verwirft. Seine Geigen sind sehr sauber gearbeitet und verdienen auch in dieser Hinsicht Lob. Pfarrer Greulich in Posen besitzt zwei Violinen von ihm.
