    1. Vaillant (Vaillot, or Vaillaut), François. A maker in Paris, who, according to his labels, was living in the rue de la Juiverie, 1736-38, and according to the old almanacs in rue N.-D.-de-bonne-nouvelle, 1775-83. His instruments show good workmanship, but the varnish is poor. Label: "François Vaillant, rue de la Juiverie à Paris, 1738."
    2. Valentine, William. A maker in London, who died about 1877. He made some good double-basses.
    3. Valler. A maker in Marseilles in 1683.
    4. Vandelli, Giovanni. Was working in Modena, 1796-1839. His violins are fairly well made.
    5. Vanderlist. A maker in Paris, living in rue des Vieux-Augustins, 1788-89. Is said to have copied the work of Guadagnini, both in pattern and varnish, with great skill. He branded his name on his instruments. Label: "Luthier, rue des Vieux-Augustins, près de l'égout de la rue Montmartre, Paris."

    7. Varotti, Giovanni. A maker in Bologna in 1813.

    1. Vaillant (Vaillot, or Vaillaut), François.     1. Valtrin, Didier. — Mirecourt. † vor 1698
    2. Von A. Jacquot nachgewiesener Geigenmacher. Es gab auch noch einen Jean-Dominique I Valtrin um 1677, einen Jean-Dominique II von 1698—1707, ferner zwei Jean-Joseph V. von 1714—1757 und von 1740—1749. Der Name kommt auch Vaultrin geschrieben vor, und ein Joseph Vautrin, der im 19. Jahrhundert in Mirecourt tätig war, gehört jedenfalls in diese Familie. Auch die Jean-Joseph Watrin (1744) bezeichnete Violine der Sammlung Snoeck rührte jedenfalls von einem Mitglied dieser Geigenmacherfamilie her.
    4. Vandelli, Giovanni. — Fiorano (Modena). Geb. 1796, † 1839
    5. Seine Geigen sind recht sauber gearbeitet, haben jedoch keinen großen Ton und zeichnen sich auch sonst nicht aus, so daß sie trotz ihres guten Aussehens nicht hoch geschätzt werden.
