Record details

Physical copy of the same Carl Fischer 1925 setting as `an-encyclopedia-of-the-violin-1925-fe56e9` (encyclopediaofvi0000albe_h3k7): the half-title reads the same wording and layout as that scan (a faint, washed exposure of the identical setting), and the Contents/Illustrations pagination runs to the same plate/page (through xiii). The library's own bookplate, "The Library, Colby Junior College for Women", carries a seal dated 1837 — the college's founding, not the book's. archive.org catalogues this scan as 1926; that is corrected here to 1925 to match the copy above — two library copies of one printing, not two editions a year apart. The imprint/copyright leaf (title verso, leaf 7-8) was not among the harvested leaves for either scan, so 1925 rests on the matching typesetting and pagination, not a read imprint date. Read from the harvested leaves 9 September 2026 (M6). Kind, evidence grade, author, place of publication, publisher and the shortened note form still to be completed by hand from the volume.

Public domain by hand: physical copy of the same Carl Fischer 1925 setting as an-encyclopedia-of-the-violin-1925-fe56e9 (encyclopediaofvi0000albe_h3k7). Title page read by hand 9 September 2026 (plain tan cloth; half-title reading the same wording and layout as that copy, a faint/washed exposure of the identical setting; "The Library, Colby Junior College for Women" bookplate, seal dated 1837, the college's founding and not the book's), with matching Contents/Illustrations pagination through plate/page xiii. This record's own catalogue date was corrected from 1926 to 1925 the same session, on the same evidence. Assessed by hand, owner ruling 9 Sep 2026 (REVIEW.md), because source-basis.py had no second witness on disk.

What rests on this source

Everyone this source names

This document prints 779 names. A name found this way is the weakest thing this site records: the book names the person, and nothing more is said. It is not a line in a record — the lines that actually rest on this source are listed above, each with its own confidence. 687 of the names below reach a record on this site; lines from this source have been written for 283. The rest are names and nothing else — which is an honest description of the evidence, and an invitation: if you know one of these makers, we want to hear from you.
