1PREFACE.
3In the bringing out of this, the first, edition of the County of Wentworth and Hamilton City Directory, the publishers beg to assure the public that every effort has been made to render it a complete index to the professional, commercial, manufacturing and farming communities of the City and County, and though it is next to impossible in a work of this nature to have it entirely free from error, they feel that their experience and success hitherto in the Directory line should satisfy their patrons that nothing has been left undone compatibly with an early issue and accuracy that could be desired, even by professed fault-finders.
5Several new features have been introduced into this work which need not be enumerated here, and the publishers desire to present acknowledgments to the many gentlemen, both in the City and County who have so promptly furnished them with so much useful information, which would otherwise have involved much time and expense to procure. They also beg to acknowledge their gratitude for the patronage and encouragement received from the commencement at the hands of the professional, mercantile, manufacturing and farming interests, both of Hamilton and the County, and they trust the advertisers will find their investments as profitable to them as the work will be useful to the thousands of readers who will have occasion to consult it.
7Lastly, they wish to say to those whose names may unwittingly have been left out, that they will gladly make all amendments and corrections in the next edition.
