JOFREDUS CAPPA, CREMONA, 1670
Number 7508. While this beautiful instrument bears the ticket of Amati, we have no hesitancy in placing it as the work of the master, Cappa, who was a disciple of Amati. The back is of two pieces of curly maple with sides to match. Top is of medium grain spruce. The varnish is of a very fine brownish red. The instrument possesses an exquisite quality of tone with ample power for concert work. It is of exceedingly graceful pattern and plays with great ease. This would be a specially desirable violin for a player with a small hand.
Price: $3,000
FERDINAND GAGLIANO, NAPLES, 1761
Number 7717. Our connoisseur recently acquired this instrument for us in Paris and its superb condition and rarity of tone proclaim it an unusual creation. Medium high model. Back of two pieces of flamed maple with sides to match. Top of fine grained spruce. Varnish of an orange brown color.
Price: $3,000
NICOLAS GAGLIANO FILIUS ALESSANDRO, NAPLES, 17—
Number 7704. Wood of choicer description than appears in this violin has perhaps never been used in any of this master's work. The back is fashioned of two pieces of flamed maple with sides to match; the top is of spruce of medium grain. The varnish is a golden brown. Violins of like antiquity are rarely discovered in such fine condition. The tone is large and has a most beautiful quality.
Price: $3,000
