Record details

Physical copy of the same Carl Fischer 1925 setting as `an-encyclopedia-of-the-violin-1926` (encyclopediaofvi0000albe_u1d5): dark green cloth, gilt "AN ENCYCLOPEDIA OF THE VIOLIN / ALBERTO BACHMANN" and a lyre device; half-title "AN ENCYCLOPEDIA / OF / THE VIOLIN" (verso blank); Contents/Illustrations pagination runs to the same plate/page (through xiii) as that scan. Two library copies of one printing, not two editions — see `an-encyclopedia-of-the-violin-1926`'s own caveat for its corrected date. The imprint/copyright leaf (title verso, leaf 7-8) was not among the harvested leaves for either scan, so 1925 rests on the matching typesetting and pagination, not a read imprint date. Read from the harvested leaves 9 September 2026 (M6). Kind, evidence grade, author, place of publication, publisher and the shortened note form still to be completed by hand from the volume.

Public domain by hand: physical copy of the Carl Fischer 1925 setting of Bachmann's An Encyclopedia of the Violin. Title page read by hand 9 September 2026 (dark green cloth, gilt "AN ENCYCLOPEDIA OF THE VIOLIN / ALBERTO BACHMANN" and a lyre device; half-title "AN ENCYCLOPEDIA / OF / THE VIOLIN", verso blank), with Contents/Illustrations pagination matching its sibling copy an-encyclopedia-of-the-violin-1926 (encyclopediaofvi0000albe_u1d5) through plate/page xiii — two independent library copies of one 1925 printing, though neither carries a harvested imprint leaf. Assessed by hand, owner ruling 9 Sep 2026 (REVIEW.md), because source-basis.py had no second witness on disk.

What rests on this source

Everyone this source names

This document prints 778 names. A name found this way is the weakest thing this site records: the book names the person, and nothing more is said. It is not a line in a record — the lines that actually rest on this source are listed above, each with its own confidence. 682 of the names below reach a record on this site; lines from this source have been written for 282. The rest are names and nothing else — which is an honest description of the evidence, and an invitation: if you know one of these makers, we want to hear from you.
