INTRODUCTORY
Polk's Ann Arbor, Ypsilanti and Washtenaw County Directory for 1916 is herewith presented. The usual care and attention has been given to the preparation of the various departments of the Directory and the publishers are confident that it will meet the requirements of their patrons.
The earlier pages of the work are devoted to useful information relating to the city of Ann Arbor and Washtenaw county in general, embracing a street and avenue Guide and Directory of Householders and of those who are engaged in business, arranged by streets and numbers; every department of city and county government; detailed information concerning banks, cemeteries, churches, hospitals, incorporated companies, libraries, parks, periodicals, the postoffice, public buildings, railroads, public and private schools, etc.
This is followed by an alphabetically arranged directory of business firms and private citizens in Ann Arbor. A similar arrangement follows for Ypsilanti; succeeding this are alphabetically arranged directories of Bridgewater, Chelsea, Dexter, Dixboro, Manchester, Milan, Pittsfield, Salem, Saline, Urania, Whitmore Lake, Whittaker, Willis and York.
A Classified Business Directory of all persons doing business in the county follows. This department shows the various manufacturing, mercantile and professional occupations in alphabetical order by towns and constitutes an epitome of the business interests of the county.
The final pages are devoted to a list giving name, section, number of acres, assessed valuation, name of township and postoffice addresses of all taxpayers in Washtenaw county.
In the General Index, which follows, is shown the number of the page on which any desired information can be found.
