20GILMORE, GRAVES & CO.; GILMORE & CO.; WRIGHT, GILMORE & CO.
21Patrick Sarsfield Gilmore was in business as a musical instrument dealer in Gilmore & Russell in 1859. From 1860-61 he apparently was just the leader of Gilmore's Band at the same address. His name did not appear in business directories for 1862 & 1863, but in 1864-65 he was a partner in Gilmore, Graves & Co. which became just Gilmore & Co. in 1866, and Wright, Gilmore & Co. in 1867. By 1868 Mr. Gilmore had apparently given up instrument manufacturing as the firm had become E. G. Wright. See p. 270.
23The new combination of Gilmore, Graves & Co. described their business thus in 1864—"Purity of tone, perfection of tune, and elegance of finish, are the qualities in which our instruments excel. Improved tools and machinery for manufacturing have been prepared under the supervision of P. S. GILMORE, leader of Gilmore's celebrated band, who is a partner in our firm, and who personally examines and tests every instrument manufactured in our establishment. SAMUEL GRAVES & SONS, better known as Graves & Co., the oldest and most celebrated Musical Instrument Makers in this country, are also partners in our concern, and it is needless to remark that they are, and have been the acknowledged heads and model manufacturers in this line of business for the past forty years. The best guaranty we can offer, is to say that we warrant every instrument made by us to give PERFECT SATISFACTION." 28
