WM. A. COLE 45; AND F. E. COLE
Mr. Cole was a partner in Fairbanks & Cole from 1880 until he left about 1888 to go into banjo manufacturing for himself. After his death about 1909 the business was conducted by his brother, Frank, as F. E. Cole. This was continued but a short time after Frank Cole's death, being taken over by Nokes & Nicolai.
Wm. A. Cole was a fine banjo, mandolin and guitar player and a member of the old "Imperial Club." He and George C. Dobson were the most prominent teachers of banjo in Boston before the advent of those connected with the "Boston Ideal Banjo, Mandolin and Guitar Club."

FAIRBANKS & COLE 45
A. C. Fairbanks started alone as a banjo manufacturer about 1875. He was a player of the old style five string banjo with long neck and side peg. Around 1880 he took in Wm. A. Cole as a partner in Fairbanks & Cole. When the latter left about 1888 the company name was changed to A. C. Fairbanks & Company. In 1892 it was simply A. C. Fairbanks. When it was incorporated about 1893 it became A. C. Fairbanks Company, Inc. In March 1904 the company had a disastrous fire. A few months later The Vega Company took over its business and employees. See The Vega Company P. 229 for further information.
