1Just like ABC to use this book
31. When you want to buy something…
4Suppose, for instance, it's a refrigerator—just do this.
5First find "Refrigerators" on the "R" pages.
6Then pick out the dealer who interests you most, or who handles the kind of refrigerator you want, or whose location is convenient to you.
7You can use the directory in exactly the same way, whether you want a beauty shop, or a carpet cleaner, or a florist, or a plumber, or when you want to buy hundreds of other products or services.
8Or… if you are a purchasing agent, and want to buy one sign or 1,000 signs—it is just as easy.
9First find the "Sign" classification on the "S" pages.
10Then you are on [address hidden] in the sign business now, just pick out the sign company that appeals to you.
11You will find this book helpful in buying almost every other business product or service.
132. When you want a dealer of a trade marked product…
14Suppose you want to find a dealer for a nationally known product or service, such as "Plymouth" automobiles.
15First turn to "Automobile Agencies" on the "A" pages.
16Then select your dealer from the list of automobile agencies. It is just as easy as using a dictionary.
183. When you have forgotten a business firm's name…
19Occasionally you may forget a business establishment's name but remember the location. For example, you want the radio man at West [address hidden]
20Simply turn to the "Radio" classification.
21Here you will find the radio people, and then all you have to do is look for the address which is similar to you.
234. When you have forgotten part of a name… but remember the address…
24Frequently the full name of a firm is forgotten. For example—suppose you want a laundry and all you remember is that the firm has the word "Individual" in its name.
25First turn to the "Laundries" section on the "L" pages.
26Here you will find the laundry companies and a brief look through the names listed will reveal the company you are looking for.
285. Even when you know the name…
29In looking up names you know, the Classified will frequently help you. Suppose you want to telephone Smith, the plumber. All the plumbers are listed in the Classified at the classification of "Plumbers" on the "P" pages, and it is usually easier to find your Smith among the few listed in the "Plumbers" section than in the long list of Smiths in the Alphabetical Directory.
30IF YOU CAN'T FIND what you want—call MUrray Hill 4-7000 (The Reuben H. Donnelley Corporation) and ask for "BUYERS SERVICE." They will be glad to tell you where you can obtain it.

41Index of Classified Headings
43HOW TO USE THIS INDEX—
441. To find listings under any classification shown in this index, turn to the page number shown. If a cross reference is shown instead of a page number, look in the directory under the alternate heading.
452. For your convenience in finding specific headings in the index, about three headings in each column are printed in larger type.
463. To simplify the index, general classifications only are shown in many instances and additional specific classifications or subdivisions of the business will be found in the body of the book at the page number shown in the index. Example—the heading of "Air Conditioning Business" in the index covers "Air Conditioning Contractors," "Air Conditioning Equipment," "Air Conditioning Supplies," etc.
474. If you can't find what you want, call "Buyers' Service, MUrray Hill 4-7000."
