The top is of Italian spruce of the choicest selection, of straight, fine grain and of strong qualities. The back is of maple in one piece, having a broadish figure extending slightly upward from left to right. The sides match the back. The varnish is of a golden brown color, entirely original. The instrument is in a very remarkable state of preservation and possesses a tone of unusual power and brilliance. It is a superb concert or orchestra instrument.
