1Hill cannot be over-estimated, and I feel that in thanking them most heartily in this place I am but inadequately acknowledging their unremitting kindnesses and interest in my work. And lastly, I may be allowed to pay a tribute of gratitude to my wife in acknowledging the care and skill with which she has constantly performed for me the uncongenial task of correcting these, for her, uninteresting and polyglot proofs.
