The Hornsteiner entry itself (“HORNSTEINER, JOHN — Chicago, Ill. B. in Mittenwald, Bavaria, Dec. 1, 1862…”) gives his location directly. The separate passage naming Reindahl among makers who “learned the craft under his guidance” could not be bridged verbatim to the Hornsteiner heading across the intervening OCR text — the attribution to Hornsteiner's entry is a strong inference (his entry precedes the passage alphabetically, and an independent source, The Violin Owner's Manual, separately names Hornsteiner's pupils), not a confirmed transcription. Verify against a physical or page-image copy before treating the training claim as settled. It flatly contradicts Reindahl's own repeated “self-taught.”
