Read as archive.org text (folksongsofanoth0000lear); the research files quote p. 86 directly but do not record whether a page image or OCR text was consulted, so this is marked ocr rather than page_image out of caution. The only scholarly treatment correcting the popular claim that Reindahl built the “Viking cello” himself: he coined the name; Orben Sime built and played the pitchfork-strung instrument, and Reindahl separately built the group a conventional cello, commissioned in 1929. Sime's own state is not given verbatim in the quoted passage — “Wisconsin” here is inferred from Reindahl's Madison base and the book's Upper Midwest/Wisconsin subject, not a direct quotation. A 1931 Bismarck Tribune (North Dakota) notice also names Sime as owner-performer of the instrument, independent corroboration of the name but not of a Wisconsin residence.
