3The violoncello is one of the favorite instruments of the day. Its noble, singing tone is admired alike in the trio or quartette, the opera or symphony orchestra, the theatre, the concert stage and the ball room. As a solo instrument it stands shoulder to shoulder with its smaller sister, the violin. As a home instrument there is none more desirable. In church and Sunday school it is ever welcome. In the mandolin and guitar orchestra it is equally valuable.
5The world's greatest composers, from Bach and Handel down to the latest and best of our modern writers, have recognized the cello and enriched its literature with many of their choicest works.
7The cello is not extremely difficult to learn. With the assistance of a good teacher one can, in a comparatively short time, play well enough to perform creditably the cello parts of the easier Haydn and Mozart quartettes, trios, many light solo pieces and the ordinary light orchestra selections and dance music. Many good performers have had no instruction beyond that derived from a good book. Violinists quickly become proficient on the cello, and many find that their violin technic is improved thereby through the extra strength and stretch developed in the left hand.

16Large, broad, Stradivarius model. Suitable for concert solo, quartette or symphony orchestra use. The tone is large, responsive and of exquisite quality. The back and sides are of the handsomest curly maple, very old and thoroughly seasoned. The top is of choicest old garret seasoned spruce. Genuine oil varnish of a beautiful brownish red color. Trimmings of finest ebony. Workmanship and finish throughout are faultless.
