3Fétis, in his Notice of Anthony Stradivari,* relates the following experiments made conjointly by Savart and the celebrated violin-maker, Jean Baptiste Vuillaume, by whom Fétis was personally supplied with the details of the experiments.
5From some fragments of violins made by Stradivari, rectangular rods were cut 200 millimètres long, twenty millimètres wide, and five millimètres thick. These rods (presumably cut with their lengths in the direction of the axis of the tree) were supported
