1VIOLIN BOWS by DOMINIQUE PECCATTE
2Born and died Mirecourt, 1810–1874
4This celebrated master, whose bows rank second only to those of François Tourte, was apprenticed to J. B. Vuillaume about 1826, and worked for him until about 1837. He then established his own shop and worked in Paris until 1847, after which he located in Mirecourt. His bows are deservedly popular, and quite easily recognized. Those produced in the shop of Vuillaume, and bearing that name, also are readily classified, his strong heads being quite different to those cut by other famous makers who also worked for that master. He made no use of any brand on his bows, as did his brother François, and his nephew Charles, who stamped their sticks PECCATTE.
