1VIOLIN BOWS by JAMES TUBBS
2London, 1835-1917
4Outstanding British maker of the 19th century. The distinctive pattern of his bow-heads is massive, graceful in design and beautiful in finish. The scientific methods he employed in fashioning the taper and curve of the sticks and their splendid playing qualities earned for him his reputation as one of the great makers of his time.
6His work is distinctive in character and is readily recognized. His bow-frogs, carefully finished in every detail, fully in keeping with the English tradition for honest, conscientious workmanship, are unique and typical of no other hand. His bows are usually stamped "Jas. TUBBS."
