PREFACE.
Another year having elapsed, the fifty-third issue of the Boston Directory is now presented to the public.
The continued watchfulness and care which are needed in preparing a work of this kind have been faithfully bestowed upon the present volume.
Knowing that some errors must always occur in a book made up almost entirely of names and figures, it is still hoped that this will excel all previous numbers in accuracy and thoroughness.
An essential improvement has been made in the General Directory, which cannot fail to meet the approbation of all who use it. This is the giving against each partner in a firm their place of business, excepting where the names of both or all the partners occur on the same page, in which case it was deemed unnecessary.
It is the aim of the publisher, by constant and renewed exertions in perfecting the Directory, to render it yet more worthy of the liberal encouragement annually extended to it.
