1AUTHOR'S NOTE
3Many of those who, I fear, are my too partial friends both at home and abroad, have urged me constantly to write these Reminiscences of my dealings, during thirty years, in violins, which may truly be called the highest of stringed instruments.
5My friends' reasons for thus urging me are no doubt due to their having heard me recount many anecdotes of these dealings, accompanied by descriptions of the famous people with whom they brought me into contact.
7DAVID LAURIE.
