1INTRODUCTION
3The first Directory of Toronto was published in 1833, when the total population was only some 9,000. To-day we present to our subscribers the forty-second issue of the City Directory of Toronto, and by actual count, we find it contains 97,087 individual names, exclusive of firms, corporations, etc.
5By using the multiple 2 3/4—which is extremely low—we estimate that at the end of 1902 the population of Toronto was 266,989.
7Some people in the past have said our estimate of the population of the city was too high, but a glance at the following comparative tables will show the rapid progress Toronto is making in all lines and go far to substantiate us in our estimate of the real population.
