1AUTHOR'S NOTE
3The following Études aim at a thorough mastery of the Positions, which is one of the first requirements in the Art of Violin-playing. At the same time the study of different bowings, trills, shadings, vibrato, has been kept in view. Études Nos. 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, 11, are to be played in one position only, while the object of the Études Nos. 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, is the shifting into intermediate positions.
5Attention should also be paid to the signs of expression.

11El designio de los Estudios que doy a continuación es él de amaestrar al discípulo en las varias Posiciones, que son esencialmente necesarias en el arte de tocar el Violín. Al mismo tiempo se ha puesto gran esmero en dar las diferentes maneras de usar el arco, el modo de hacer trinos, matices, vibrato. Los Estudios N°s 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, 11, han de tocarse en una sola posición, mientras que los estudios N°s 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, son para cambiar a las posiciones inmediatas.
13Hay que fijarse siempre en los signos para la expresión.
