    7. DODD, THOMAS (FATHER), London, 1786 to 1820. Thomas Dodd, third son of Edward Dodd, the famous bow maker, was first a brewer, from 1786-1789 a bow maker, and from 1798 a violin maker and dealer, and finally a harp and piano builder. He was a great connoisseur of Italian instruments, and his violins and violoncellos bring a very high price, being in great demand. Dodd claimed to be the only man having a formula for the genuine Cremona varnish as used by the master makers. The label used by Dodd is reproduced on Plate 20.
