    1. Wahrscheinlich ein Mirecourter. Seine Arbeit ist sehr ungleichwerthig: neben sehr mittelmässigen Violinen findet man manchmal auch solche, die recht gut klingen. Seine Geigen kommen häufig vor, doch sind seine Violoncelli, deren Böden meist aus einem Stück gefertigt sind, in der Regel besser. Sein Lack ist ziemlich dunkel. Er verwendete eine Brandmarke: Pillement à Paris
    2. Auf einem Zettel von 1830 bezeichnet er sich als F. Pillement père. Es scheint also auch sein Sohn Geigenmacher gewesen zu sein; vielleicht ist dies jener •Lété Pillement• in Turin, dessen Namen man in einer Guitarre las. Die kgl. Sammlung in Berlin besitzt aus der Sammlung Snoeck eine Geige von Pillement (No. 532).

    5. In den Kirchenbüchern von Görz kommt ein einziger Francesco Pelosio als Sohn des Andrea und der Teresa vor. Ob dieser mit dem Geigenmacher identisch ist, muss dahingestellt bleiben. Da Manche die Jahreszahl 1778 auf einem seiner Zettel mit 1748 lesen wollen, so müsste vielleicht der am 16. Nov. 1715 geborene Francesco Andrea Pelosio (Sohn des Giacomo und der Maddalena P.) als der Verfertiger der Geigen etc., die den Namen •Pilosius• tragen, angesehen werden, obwohl das durchaus unwahrscheinlich wäre*). Francesco Pilosio war besonders als Violenmacher recht geschickt. Violinen von ihm habe ich nicht gesehen.
    7. *) Der Name Pelos kommt in Görz sehr häufig vor.

    1. PIERRAY, CLAUDE, Paris, 1698 to 1726. One of the best representatives of the Paris school. His violins are made in small and large patterns, and are generally varnished light red or yellow which time has turned very dark. The tone is brilliant and very powerful. Authorities are agreed that Claude Pierray's violins compare favorably with Cremonese instruments. There are a great many of his violins still to be obtained.
