    7. CERUTTI, GIOV. BATTISTA, Cremona, b. about 1755, d. after 1817. A pupil of Lorenzo Storiomi, and later his successor. On account of ill health the business was afterwards transferred to his son. He worked on the Guanerius model, and made in all about five hundred violins. The varnish varies in color, sometimes light yellow, then again deep red. At times he used different woods for back and belly. The tone of his violin is loud and clear, and has quite naturally gained by age.

    2. Der Vater des berühmten Goldschmieds und Erzgießers usw. Benvenuto Cellini. Ursprünglich Architekt, wie sein Vater, verlegte er sich — ein echter Renaissancemensch — auf viele Künste, ward Ratspfeifer und wollte auch aus Benvenuto einen Musiker machen. Dieser schreibt von ihm in seiner Autobiographie: »Mein Vater machte zu selbiger Zeit (um1505) wundersame Orgeln mit hölzernen Pfeifen, Klaviere, so schön und gut, als man sie damals nur sehen konnte, Violen, Lauten und Harfen auf das Beste … Er arbeitete wundersam in Elfenbein und war der erste, der in dieser Kunst etwas leistete.«
    4. Celoniato, Gian Francesco. — Turin. 1730. 1737
    5. Wenn er, seinem Modell nach zu urteilen, auch Amati und Bergonzi gekannt hat, so steht er doch noch unter dem Einflusse Cappas. Die Arbeit ist ziemlich gut, besonders schön aber sein gelber Lack. Die oft wiederkehrende Lesart Celionatus scheint auf einem Druckfehler zu beruhen. Eine Viola d’amore von 1732 besitzt W. Heyers Musikhistorisches Museum in Köln. Es soll auch Geigenzettel geben, auf denen nur der Taufname Franciscus vorkommt. Seine Violoncelli sind gewöhnlich sehr gut im Ton. Im Jahre 1905 wurde ein solches in Wien für 4000 Kronen ausgeboten.
