    1. GRAGNANI, ANTONIO, Livorno, 1741, still living in 1800. Although not one of the master makers, Gragnani's violins have an excellent tone and pleasing appearance. One of his instruments is reproduced on Plate 14.

    3. GRANCINO, FRANCESCO, Milan, 1690, d. 1746.
    4. GRANCINO, GIOVANNI I, Milan, 1645 to 1682.
    5. GRANCINO, GIOVANNI II, Milan, b. about 1675, d. after 1737. Second son and pupil of Paolo Grancino. As a violin maker, he is one of the best, and fully the equal of his brother Paolo. The arch of his violins is not as high but broader than that of Paolo, although the latter used better wood. He had a predilection for the smaller models. One of his instruments (1737) is in the Lobkowitsch collection; another of the year 1702 is owned by Alfred Keil in Lisbon.
    6. GRANCINO, GIOVANNI BATTISTA I, Milan, Ferrara, 1690 to 1710. The label used by Grancino is reproduced on Plate 11, and one of his instruments on Plate 12.
    7. GRANCINO, PAOLO, Milan, 1665 to 1692. A distinguished maker said to have been a pupil of Amati.
