    2. Vater und Sohn J. A. Hass (Hasse). Dass sie auch Lauten u. dgl. gebaut haben, ist wahrscheinlich, doch waren sie nur als Claviermacher berühmt.
    4. Hassert, Johann Christian. — Rudolstadt. Geb. 1. Mai 1759 zu Rudolstadt, † daselbst 3. Mai 1823.
    5. Sohn des Johann Georg Christian H. («Fürstl. Musical.-Hoff- und Feldtrompeters»). Auch er ward fürstl. Hoftrompeter und war einer der bekanntesten Geigenmacher seiner Zeit. Er ahmte die hohe Wölbung Stainers nach und verarbeitete gutes Holz, doch haben seine Geigen nur kleinen, spitzen Ton.

    1. HART, JOHN THOMAS, London, b. 1805, d. 1874. In 1820 he associated himself with Samuel Gilkes as an apprentice, and soon developed into a first class master. He did not build many violins himself, but those he made are considered first class Amati copies. He was a great judge of Italian violins and an excellent repairer.

    7. HELLMER, KARL JOSEPH, Prague, b. 1739, d. 1811. Successor to his father Johann Georg Hellmer and pupil of Joh. Eberle. After finishing his apprenticeship in Germany, he returned to Prague in 1763. His violins resemble those of his father, except that they are flatter in places and have a brown varnish. He was not only an accomplished musician, but also a publisher of musical literature. One of his violins (1796) is in the Museum at Salzburg and two more (1771 and 1791) are in the Monastery of St. Margaret in Prague.
