    1. Kolb (Kölb), Nikolaus. — (Mark)Neukirchen. 1678
    2. Er war in Schöneck geboren und wurde am 22. Nov. 1678 in Neukirchen als Geigenmacher in die Zunft aufgenommen.
    4. Kolditz, Jakob. — Rumburg. Geb. um 1718, † 26. Okt. 1796
    5. Er galt als trefflicher Geigenmacher und wohnte im Hause Nr. 22 in der Königstraße, wo er auch starb. Seine Violen sind besonders gut; in seinen Geigen nähert er sich der Prager Schule, weicht aber in charakteristischen Einzelheiten von dieser ab. Eine fünfsaitige Viola befindet sich in W. Heyers Musikhistorischem Museum in Köln. In der Mitte seines Zettels findet sich als Emblem eine Geige und eine Laute. (Die Familie Kolditz war von altem böhmischen Adel.)

    1. KLOTZ, MATHIAS I, Mittenwald, b. 1656, d. 1743. The real founder of the violin industry in Mittenwald. He was the eldest son of Urban Klotz and received his first lessons from Stainer, although his real education was accomplished in Italy where he worked for six years under Giovanni Railich in Padua. His work is of the highest grade and very praiseworthy. The tone is wonderful although he did not always use the best wood. There are a good many violins of his make in existence. In 1890 a bronze statue was erected to his memory in Mittenwald. A reproduction of the label used by Klotz will be found on Plate 17.
    2. KLOTZ, SEBASTIAN I, Mittenwald, b. 1696, d. after 1767. A son of Mathias Klotz. Violins of his make with a later date than 1750 are not in existence. His instruments are built after the Stainer model. The varnish is thicker and better than that of his father and of different colors, mostly red or dark brown, resembling that of Albanus. His violins bring a high price in both Great Britain and the United States. The label used by Klotz is reproduced on Plate 17, and one of his instruments on Plate 19.
