    1. Kaplan, Ladislav, New York.
    2. Knopf, Henry R., New York. Was born in Markneukirchen, Germany, December 15, 1860, and was the son of a famous bow maker, Heinrich Knopf. He studied violin making with Otto Bausch in Leipzig and Christian Adam in Berlin, coming to America in 1879. In 1880, he established his own business in New York and has made a number of instruments of the highest quality and especially famous for the beauty of the varnish as well as responsiveness of the tone. His two sons, Eugene and Richard, are now in the firm of H. R. Knopf and Sons. His label is reproduced on Plate 22 and one of his violins on Plate 24.
