RARE Old VIOLINS
JOANNES BAPTISTA GUADAGNINI, PARMA, 1766
Number 7951. A very fine example of the master's work of the Parma period. The model is broad. Handsomely figured curly maple, in one piece, forms the back. The top is spruce of medium wide grain. The varnish is a rich golden brown and the condition of the instrument is well nigh perfect. It possesses a tone of great brilliancy and fine carrying power. A violin for an artist.
Price: $9,000
OLD CREMONESE
(TICKET OF ANTONIUS STRADIVARIUS, CREMONA, 1712)
Number 7947. We highly recommend this choice old Italian masterpiece to anyone seeking a fine solo instrument of the Cremonese school at a moderate figure. While this instrument bears the ticket of Antonius Stradivarius, it is in our judgment, not from his hand, but the creation of one of his disciples in Stradivarius' shop. The model is flat. The back is fashioned from one piece and is of maple of attractive figure, with matching sides. The top is of spruce of medium wide grain and the varnish is a golden brown, slightly retouched. This instrument is in very good condition and was for many years the solo instrument of a prominent American artist. The tone is very large and of exquisite quality.

SANCTUS SERAPHIN, 1745
Number 7436. We question whether a more beautiful example of the great Venetian's work exists today. It is a treat to both eye and ear. Our connoisseur first acquired it for Lyon & Healy many years ago in Venice, the instrument being sold soon afterwards. Now, after many years, it again has come into our possession. The back is fashioned of two pieces of handsome maple of broad flame. The stripes in the wood, under the transparent varnish, which is of a lovely golden color, produce an effect to which words fail to do justice. The sides are of the same wood as the back, and the top is of spruce of medium grain. The scroll is in the master's finest style and the condition of this violin is truly exceptional.
