Greetings from the E. T. H. S. Faculty and Principal Francis L. Bacon
Names of Students Who Are Now Enrolled
No other community institution in Evanston offers so many different opportunities to Evanston citizens as the Evanston Township High School. It is in no sense an exaggeration to affirm that at no other place in Evanston is there such abundant evidence of our American democracy in daily operation. There are boys and girls from every type of home and family. All of them have the same chance to take advantage of the many different high school offerings, although they naturally differ greatly in their abilities, interests and needs and therefore there are wide differences in their accomplishments.
It is true that the standards are high, but the standards of our community and of our individual citizens are high. The school is the reflection of the desire of Evanston residents to have the best education for their children. Unless entering pupils have had average grade school preparation and unless they have given evidence of normal intelligence, industry, and achievement they will find E.T.H.S. extremely difficult and, perhaps, quite too much for them. The school is famous nationally for its accomplishment and for its leadership in secondary education. The faculty are unusually well trained and highly selected.
There is no magic in the school which may be expected to bring education for the mere wishing. The school is not a place to loaf or merely a convenient spot to meet friends. Mere attendance at school does not produce an educated person, although regular attendance is essential to making of a successful record. Pupils need to think of high school as a real job with a number of things to be done well each day. E.T.H.S. offers the facilities, the opportunities and the instruction to all on an equal basis, but the actual process of education is performed by the individual. A person's own sincere efforts and acceptance of full responsibility for his own progress are the only certain guarantees of becoming truly educated.
E.T.H.S. pupils have given excellent demonstration of good work habits, of dependability, honesty, and of superior accomplishment. These are the attributes which will always mean a successful and desirable high school for Evanston.
