COMPOSER TITLE, KEY & OP. GR. REMARKS
Cole, Ulric (Cont.) Sonata for violin and piano (Cont.) C 2 instruments to form a contrast to the recapitulation which is again brisk and precise.
Andante languido. This movement, though slow, must not be allowed to drag. It should be played legato throughout with the exception of the two climactic spots, which require additional accentuation.
Moderato. This four-measure introduction is taken at about the same speed as the first movement. The principal theme (allegro con brio) must sound deliberate and controlled. At the sixteenth bar after letter C, a very slight ritard is helpful to lend emphasis to the climax in the following measure. At letter L, the accelerando should be achieved little by little in the following eight measures so as to arrive at the final agitato section at a speed which can still permit of further extension at the last three bars.
Conus, Jules Concerto in E Minor C [address hidden] molto d = 100-104. The solo violin starts with a tender and appealing recitativo. The following andante lends itself well to free declamation and builds up to the dramatic climax of the poco più moderato quasi tempo I. An intensely warm and melodic section follows. The meno mosso is fiery and intensely rhythmical. A brief cadenza leads to a lyric section of graceful, swaying character and builds up to great fervor. In the andante some of the opening ideas are recalled but in an intensified character. The allegro tempo I is very rhythmical and brilliant.
