Among the more recently established are, The Saginaw Plate Glass Co., capital stock $350,000; will employ about 350 people. Saginaw Sugar Co., capital stock $300,000. The American Fiber Co., capital stock $200,000. Other important industries that have located here during the past year are: Ayres Gasoline Engine and Automobile Works; Wolcott Windmill Co; Michigan Wheelbarrow and Truck Co; Independent Chemical Co; Sommers Bros Match Co. and the Saginaw Muslin Underwear Co, The latter concern has recently doubled its capital and will increase its capacity 100 per cent.

25The Michigan Miner, in its issue of February, 1901, published a table compiled by authority of the State, showing that there were 843,476 tons of coal mined in Michigan during the year ending November last, and that that was an increase of 30 per cent. over the output of the previous year. When one realizes that the principal coal shafts lie within a radius of twelve miles of the city, most of them within the city limits, and that the coal from said mines is of the best bituminous quality, of the sort that makes good coke for glass manufacture, (the latter fact induced the Plate Glass Factory to locate here,) it may
