    6. HORNSTEINER, ——, Mittenwald. A family of skillful violin makers, who have not only produced instruments of merit, but have also earned recognition as dealers and publishers. The Hornsteiners were the first to associate themselves with the Klotz family. A reproduction of the label used by one of the family, Jos. Hornsteiner, is reproduced on Plate 17.

    6. HORNSTEINER, FRANZ, 1782 to 1820. Franz Hornsteiner imitated the Klotz model closely, and used a yellow or a golden brown varnish. The tone is of an even mellow character, and the instruments resemble those of Andreas Jais, another well-known Mittenwald maker.
    7. HORNSTEINER, JOSEPH IV, b. Mittenwald, 1853.
