    2. GAGLIANO, GENNARO, Naples, b. about 1700, d. after 1770. Second son and pupil of his father Alessandro, whose influence in his work cannot be mistaken. He imitated the Stradivarius models and his best work was done between 1730 and 1750. His violins are noted for their fine wood, orange or red varnish and beautiful tone. One of his violins, made in 1758, was sold to Charles Mahillon for 10,000 francs. Gennaro is considered the peer of his brother Nicola.
